This causeway is part of the A1123 just outside Earith. At either end of the causeway there is a bridge taking the road over the Old and New Bedford Rivers; between them lie the Hundred Foot Washes, which are intended to flood in winter to keep the fens dry. While the causeway is slightly higher than the Washes, this doesn't stop it from flooding; this happened about once a year when I lived there.

This photo was taken a few days after the January 30 snowstorm; the roads all around were generally drivable, but the land was still draining from the effects of the thawing snow. Just before where I was standing, there is a sign warning that the road is liable to flooding; as you can see, they aren't joking! (When it's very wet, the road is closed by police. It was at this time, too, not that that stopped the foolhardy driver pictured...)
